Having both Iwata Airbrush Fluid Head Systems the airbrush spray pattern can be dialed in to perform specific jobs. The correct tool for the job. At the macro level there is a huge difference between a 0.23 and a 0.18.

Keep in mind only one degree seperates hot water from boiling water, the same principle applies here. Hot water is coffee water, steam moves powerful engines.

The 0.18 needle permits what the 0.23 can't.
